World of Sofas delivery problems (Falkirk)

As you have may guessed I’m going to rant here – not going to be about marketing I’m afraid just a good old fashioned seriously annoyed with a company rant. Here we go on World of Sofas.

Ordering a Sofa @ World of Sofas, Falkirk

We went in at the start of October and decided to order a new set of living room furniture. We were going to wait until Xmas but we thought that having a new set of furniture for Christmas would be a bit more expensive but we wanted furniture. We went in, and the staff were really helpful (but who heard of a salesman not being).

Anyway we ordered from the World of Sofas branch in Falkirk on the 3rd of October 2009 – as it would all be sorted for Xmas.  In all honesty we expected it significantly before Xmas but so much the better.

Ordered Sofa and everything goes dead from World of Sofas, Falkirk

Nothing is heard, so just before Xmas I send an email (through the web form at the World of Sofas website), and I get and email about how someone will be in touch about delivery the next week. Nothing again – so I phone and get told that there is no way it will be delivered before Xmas but it will be in the first two weeks after new year for sure.

OK I’m now a bit angered at World of Sofas but these things happen and it’s snowing everywhere so no doubt it’ll be here.

Still no contact from World of Sofas, Falkirk

So I email (through the world of sofas website form again) and someone calls me – fantastic someone actually does customer service I think. She can’t help me but someone will phone on Wednesday. No one calls!

Thursday (today) I phone them. They can’t help as the information is on a different system. She’ll need to call me back. As World of Sofas have a tendency not to call back on general past performance I arrange to call back instead.

I call World of Sofas again…

Guess what! My furniture is not in the warehouse. It’s not even been made – apparently there was a problem with the fabric. Which they knew about weeks ago and no one bothered to tell me. One quick call – “Hi, sorry theres a problem with your order. We apologise etc” – would have saved a whole lot of consternation and anger. Good, organised customer service.

Anyway World of Sofas don’t know when it’ll be made. World of Sofas don’t know when it’ll get to the warehouse. World of Sofas don’t seem to have a clue what they are up to in any way, manner, shape of form. Oh and the managers not available so no one with any sense of authority can deal with me.

Oh well so here I sit. Bemused, angry and fed up with the whole World of Sofas disaster if I am completely honest.

Next time I’ll be shopping somewhere that has built up a modicum of brand equity (it’s difficult to build but really easy to throw away as World of Sofas demonstrate) – maybe go to Sterling Furniture in Tillicounltry near Sterling or Reid Furniture instead.

    Got my sofa at last. It’s the wrong couch, sorry the right couch wrong way round. Was going to get them to come and get it and take it away. Instead have turned my living room around. Seemed simpler than going through the whole carry on again!

    Much the same as others told 12 weeks, took 19, got 3 & 2 seater where was my chair? oh dear its lost !!!, I then demanded a whole new suite – no prob they said can get it to you in 2 weeks, very suspicious as had to wait 12 weeks originally becasue I wanted a chair – at last the lorry drove up – guess what no chair only 2 & 3 seater. I went ballistic – told them I had better have a full suite by close of business or I would ************ – I have now got the suite but have had to call out the engineer as one of the recliners was faulty and there is an awful smell coming from the suite – I was told to use neutrodol for a few weeks so I am trying this at the moment as I have been told it will go away – wish I had went away from sofa world.

    The whole add neutradol to the suite we sold you thing just sounds like a complete nightmare. I’m still in shock about that if I am honest. I can’t believe that World of Sofas (who are purporting to be a professional chain) would treat someone in this way. But based upon my experiences if I said that the shock was more than a transitory WTF I’d be lying. Nothing I hear about this mob shocks me – which is concerning.

    Just wondered mercurythread did you get your sofa in April? I haven’t received my sofa yet,ordered on 4 sept,all I got was verbally abused when I went in to store in Dundee to ask when it would arrive.it it now 4weeks late.

    I did eventually get my Sofa. After much toing and froing. I would never use World of Sofas again. In terms of the late delivery this seems to be consistent. I did write to head office and ask for an explanation 6 months ago and have heard nothing to date. Let me know how you get on with your sofa delivery problems – if you would like to add your review about World of Sofas to this site please add it to the comments below. I hope they get your furniture to you soon.

    I ordered a 3&2 seater from world of sofas. Paid 10% then later spoke to someone who suggest I pay full to get a quicker delivery. I was supposed to receive a call on 29th of this month when delivery men are in Scotland they told me. But guess what I’ve heard nothing. I have been on the website called all numbers they have not being able to get hold of any one to discuss my problem. I keep hearing the same voicemail message on every number. No one ever available. Oh and the mailbox is too full to take anymore messages. So here I am frustrated not able to find out what’s going on or to even request a refund …. I will never be using world of sofas again will get my refund if i can get hold of an employee not an automated machine. This company is a joke

    I am hugely disheartened to hear that over a year after I got frustrated by World of Sofas that nothing has improved. I think the whole Christmas Delivery thing is a scam used to squeeze the 10%’s out of everything. Reviewing the performance of World of Sofas it would appear if nothing else they are being consistent – consistently woeful.

    I’ve had three people phone me over Xmas thinking I was world of sofas! Hugely disappointing reviews across the board. And don’t get me started on the fact that in less than a year the sofa needs to be re-stuffed!

    My son ordered a 3 and 4 seater suite from World of Sofa, Cardiff in August 2010, he was told it would be delivered within 8 weeks max. He paid in full with his credit card. He still hasn’t received the suite. They keep fobbing him off with excuses. They don’t answer the phones and the messages or e-mails they ask you to leave are never replied to. My son has now been in touch with his credit card company who hopefully will sort out this mess. Trading standards should be looking into this company.

    I ordered sofas before Christmas at World of sofas and I have to say despite the appalling weather they delivered right on time as promised and my sofas are fantastic as well as saving myself a fortune

    @Karen – sorry for not responding sooner but I do not check in every day and with it being new year things are really busy at work – three minutes between comments for a response does seem slightly unfair. As an aside I also delayed responding as when I tried to work out how someone would find this page (which is generally negative unless they had something negative to say). But as the day you posted was really quiet on my blog it looks like you posted this comment from Spain – so I’m glad you took the time whilst out of the UK to send us these messages. I think there is a world of sofas chain in Spain (http://www.sofasdelmundo.com) and just incase there are any misunderstandings I have only commented on World of Sofas in the UK.

    @Aaron and Zina – did you get your refund? Would be interested to know if this was done – I would like to think that it would be but TBH my faith in these people has been crippled. As an aside I emailed watchdog already about this – a while back. Never heard anything back.

    @Carol – Is disappointing that they still haven’t moved anywhere with your order. The length of time that they consistently take is beyond painful, and often the lack of communication always makes it worse. Let me know how you get on.

    Just to clarify I’d be delighted if everyone who had chatted here had a great experience but yours is the first positive story I’ve heard.

    Can anyone tell me the direct number for cardiff store world of sofa???? Can not get through to speak to anyone?? Had phone call stating that there finance company have fallen through and that i cannot have sofa unless i paid it off in cash for full amount??

    Never mind about the number we decided to go down to the store today, but hey guess what!!!! There is no longer a store!!! The store was closed and empty and a notice on the door saying GONE TITS UP!!!!
    So basically the guy who rang me saturday just wanted me to make pay in full using my credit card. Very clever and sly.
    As is goes he rang back this afternoon but my partner was well ready for his B… S…
    The guy played dumb about the store being closed and said it was the fianance company who gone bankrupt. He then admitted that World of sofa has gone into liqidation but another company had bought them out!!! Yeah right we believe you. If that was the case why not explain that from the start.
    Just hope they dont start trying to take payments now!!!!

    World of sofas went in to liquidation approx five weeks ago.They have been bought over by a company Riverside Furniture and will be hounoring all orders only pronlem is the deposits have to be paid agian so you have to pay full price ,they are giving a 10 per cent discount as a good will gesture.

    WELL! I am gutted, ordered our suite on 19th November 2010 delivery 16-18 weeks (Falkirk Store) Just had a call to tell me they have gone into liquidation and been taken over by Riverview Furniture!!?? but they have no finance company in place, if we still want the suite we can pay by credit card or cash and receive 10% discount YEAH RIGHT!!!! Absolute shambles!!!!!!!!

    Hi fellow World of Sofa sufferers. Just to mention I placed an order for two sofas mid Sept 2010 and was then told it would take 4 months for delivery. I was shocked at first but because we really liked them we reluctantly agreed to wait for delivery – expected about mid January this year. Waited rather patiently for 4 months and heard nothing so went into the store where I was told there had been a delay and they would be shipped over to UK by 10 Feb. Wife called several times on 11 Feb and was eventually told they arrived in UK on 9 Feb and are sitting in a container in the dock awaiting customs clearance (would take at least another 12-14 days before they reach the store). Called 26th Feb to finally learn that finance company gone bust and therefore no finance deals will be honoured. Basically customers have a choice to walk away or buy the sofas (paying full cost up front but would get a 10% reduction). I queried whether I would still also have to pay the £69 delivery fee and the guy said they could work something out. So I have waited nearly 5 1/2 months for these new sofas which are now sitting somewhere in the UK, and have to decide whether I still want them or not !! The only good thing is that I have yet to pay a penny, unlike some other poor customers on this forum. Decisions, decisions !!!

    I ordered a sofa with World of Sofa’s before xmas. My uncle has had no end of problems with his sofa and the service, or lack of should i say but i was unaware of this at the time! Tried to get in touch with the Cardiff store and we were feed the same c**p that you were lucy. We were told that the finance company were going into liquidation not the store. Been to store, they are closed. No answer on any number i call and voice messages too full to leave a essage. This is an absolute joke! These companies should not be allowed to run! I have sent a message via the internet site explaining i would like a call back but after reading this thread i’m not hopefully. We had to order the sofa after a major flood in my house beofre xmas. I really didnt need this on top of all the stress that caused!!!! Anyway, let me know if you guys have any luck contacting them. :-)

    World of sofa have gone bust, but have been bought by the previous owner and started again under the new name Riverveiw Furniture (he also owned Lnad of Leather until it went under. Supposely my soaf is still on order, but i will have to get a refund through my credit card and repay the new company. Hassle !!!

    I bought a recliner sofa from world of sofas in falkirk in november waited 16 weeks then called them about a delivery date was told it was at customs and would be here in about 10-12 days i waited then called again the manager (fenn) in falkirk skirted round the issue and eventually told me the story my sofa now in warehouse but no finance available anymore………….what a load o CRAP…. I just called finance company and they are just waiting on my sofa being delivered they said they have nothing to do with world of sofas they are a separate finance company and YES if you applied for finance they will give you it but you have to call administrators to arrange delivery BUT I WILL BE CANCELLING THIS SERVICE IS UTTER RUBBISH…cannot understand how people can set up a company ,,go bust,,set up another one,, and go bust again….WHAT IS WRONG WITH OUR COUNTRY that they can just keep doing this nothing but a bunch of crooks

    Problems withe Falkirk branch put a deposit of £50 for a suite ( Cash because the machine wasn’t “working”) and asked to pay the rest on delivery(£1840), when delivery was arranged they asked me to pay the remainder in cash to the driver, when I said I would pay by cheque they said this was not acceptable and it would have to be cash, I wasn’t prepared to cart that amount of cash about (also thought it was very dodgy) so cancelled the order, and they are now refusing to give me my deposit back, beware people, this company morphs from one name to another but the customer service is still very suspect

    Hello all just a few points about the Company World of Sofas this rubbish about the finance company going bust is total rubbish it was the finance company pulled the plug on World of Sofas because they could see what was about to happen with the way world of Sofas traded.
    The company did go into Administration and was bought over by Riverview furniture who believe it or not are the SAME PEOPLE THAT OWNED WORLD OF SOFAS AND LAND OF LEATHER.
    The reason there card machine not working is because they dont have a bank account and there merchent service provider pulled the plug on them also.
    The reason people had to pay for there sofas in cash was No1 NO BANK ACCOUNT and No2 THEY HAD NO MONEY TO PAY WAGES TO STAFF (Staff got paid from customers sofa money)
    This company is a JOKE Shitty cheap sofas that fall to bits i even herd of 2 people who got there sofas and they had mould all over them.
    I hope this company goes bust for good never to put up as somthing else
    P.S if you cant get through to the shops does anyone want the area managers mobile number ??????

    Do not buy a suite from World of Sofas . We bought a suite and after 14 weeks it was finally delivered however after 6 weeks the cushion started coming apart at the seams. Several visits to the store and numerious phone calls to the store eventually resulted in someone coming out on the 20 th of December. The technician told us that he would order new cushions which should take 2 -3 weeks . In feburary went to the store and was told that they had gone bust and the suite was now our problem. I am now in discussions with the credit company (consumer credit act amended 1974 section 75 ) about join liability for the suite. I hear that they are now going to open up again under another company name but with the same people in charge .

    Wow. They can’t open up again. This will be the third incarnation from what I understand Land of Leather -> World of Sofas -> Another Awful Customer Service Rip Off Sofa company.

    If World of Sofas do the same again there must be something that the public can do! Am so fed up with all of this. Consumers get ripped off and the people running it just rebuild.

    Does anyone know what they’ll be called if/when they start up again? As TBH I can feel another blog post coming on about this whole subject matter.

    we are in the same boat. everything the same, that message is starting to go right through me now, press 1 if you have placed an order,press 2, blah blah… so i dialled the falkirk store,as the edin store shut at the weekend without warning!….,44 times and worked out if you press 2 everytime, it goes back to the start and rings them again, i persisted as i knew eventually someone would pick up, they did and told me just to go to the bank to get a refund, they couldnt help me atall, said they did not know if a shipment was still coming?? we have gone to the bank and processed it,it will take a while so if the sofa does magically turn up 1st then we will take it and cancel the bank. susan mackenzie

    Hi, do you have a number for World of Sofa’s that I can call where they actually pick up! Tried to call them about my dad’s sofas ordered in December (I know, he’s not been waiting as long as others) and by email I’m told they have it in the warehouse but when I go into the store they dont have it. Its a bit of a trek for me to go out there again and my pensioner dad is beginning to freak out a bit. A number would be a great help.

    hi,i made mistake of ordering a suite on 28th december 2010 from world of sofas,paid £100 deposite.I told would arrive mid march!contacted branch(uddingston) ,phoned+visited on number of occassions one excuse after another.got fed up waiting and picked one from stock on 29th april to be delivered on 3rd may.suite finally arrived at 7pm only for one to be damaged,refused to allow it to be taken from van and phoned store eventually got answer(15-20mins)told manager not in to friday,to take suite then speak to him then,refused.Then told larry(sales man)would phone manager and get back to me,told to take both suites or return both.I told driver to take them back and refused to pay delivery fee as one suite never left van,we were then threatened by delivery manager who told us he would come to our house for money,told him to take it up with world of sofas.so now im left £100 out of pocket and no suite.please do not buy from world of sofas or riverview furniture or any other name this company changes to.

    well my story is the same as everybody elses exept with a slightly diffrent ending. i purchased my sofa in january 2011 and waited till march but still hadnt arrived and no contact from world of sofas so i called them then they persisted to tell me that the company had gone into liquidisation (AGAIN) and they decided to tell me that if i wanted my sofa they would honour it 1o% of blah blah blah so i hungthe phone up next day i get a phonecall from the delivery company sayinthey would be delivering my couch in a week or so ?so i took the dates and as they said the couch was deliverd on the time we agreed so i thot the phonecall i had taken was a mistake UNTILL 3weeks ago when a nast piece of Sh$@t salesman phoned and demanded money from me sayin that we know you claimed the money back as i had payed with my card and could do so i had said i have my couc and have done so for sum time he then started gettin narky with which i reply with a few choice words of my own heard nuthin since but have made an appointment to see my bank about gettin this money bak from previous company. how does this money stand if i have my prduct and have done so for a while and id i claim the money back are they entitled to it ?/ and have i just won a watch and gained a free couch or free money lol can you help ????

    Hi, I ordered my sofas from the Falkirk Branch on the 9th Feb 2011, was not told anything at this time about just coming out from administration again.., paid £90 deposit by cheque, told the finance was changing companies and would be able to pay balance when sofas arrive. Week after that I find out about the administration from the press, then received a letter saying my order will still be processed and delivered in 16 weeks approx. Then I see the closing down adverts so contact the shop (or should I say try, ringing out) Send an email via the website, and receive a call back to say that the shop is closing the following week and only 2 stores in scotland staying open, Clydebank and Dundee, and that my order is still on the system, and will still arrive. Just had a look at their website last night and it’s gone! Now think I will never get my sofas or see my £90 again, just wish I has listened to all the negative press before ordering.

    I also bought a set of sofa on month of February and they gave me 16 weeks for delivery and I still haven’t received my sofa.
    Any time I go there they sei to me the sistem is not Woking and it all most 20 weeks.

    I ordered our sofa December 2010. Was told I would get it end
    Of March 2011. I contacted them
    Several times and world of sofas kept on saying it’s taking long because we ordered and armchair with the suite! Like wth! Anyway early April, I went to to world of sofas in Cardiff, only to find that its closed, as it’s gone into administration. I then checked the website and got the number for riverview furniture who said they have taken over and I should have received a letter from world of sofas to say they’ve gone into liquidation(which I did not ever receive) riverview said I can cancel the order or they will honour a 10% disc and we should get the sofas May 2011. I decided to carry on with the purchase as I had waited so long and riverview came across very committed. However it was early June and I still hadn’t received the sofas. So called them and they said the sofas should arrive for definite on the 19th of June 2011. That date passed too and yet no sofas. I have been calling them and leaving messages constantly for the past two weeks.but no one is getting back to me. And typically no one is answering on any of their telephone numbers either. So it looks like iv lost my deposit payment and I have been pulled along with False hope for all this months. I have become a pawn of the cruel game played by world of sofas and river view furniture! They are rubbish! It’s a scam that’s taken advantage of innocent customers!!!!!

    got a suite from this company and the dye went off the leather on to the fabric got technicians out on 1st february was to get a replacement hasnt happened yet, was told by a sales person called gillian it was definately with an order on 20th june i have called and called and emailed no answer and now the phones are going dead, gillian the sales person should be called pinnochio why lie who do these people think they are to take peoples hard earned money!
